#8 The Myth of Chinese Tones: Why Does "I Ask You" Sound Like "I Kiss You"?

Mandarin Chinese is a tone language. We'll lead you to decode the mystery of the five tones. You'll be surprised that each tone have their corresponding pronunciation pairs in English. After this session, you'll be able to read Chinese characters based on their Pinyin.

About the Event

Appetizer (30 mins) - Introduction to New Words & Phrases

First, we will learn about the tones. Our teacher will explain and teach you how to pronouce and differentiate the tones. You will nail the easy six finals in several mintues. After that, we will move forward to the finals. You will be amazed that you will be able to read a Chinese paragraph with the help of Pinyin (pronounication system of Mandarin Chinese)

Main Course (30 mins) - Now, Let's Practice 

In this part, we will practice how to prononuce the tones, initals and finals by reading numbers in Mandarin. Here're what you will learn:

  1. How to say numbers from 0-99 in Mandarin 
  2. How to ask and say phone numbers 
  3. How to use the numbers to tell time

Dessert (30 mins) - Open Discussions

Let's do something more challenging! We will first learn a fun tongue twister and make a recording together. After that, we will take time to make conversations and test each other's listening and speaking skills in Mandarin Chinese.
